Essential Matwork

These are many of the Pilates programmes we offer. If you are unsure of what you require or have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.

Beginners Level
These classes enhance the teachings of Joseph Pilates with modern knowledge about the body, including the current principles of core stability and functional fitness. Time is spent on encouraging participants to listen to their bodies and to concentrate on quality of movement. Lorna does not usually use music during her pure Pilates classes to avoid distractions.

Intermediate Level
These classes will focus on the principles of core/torso stability to increase muscle power and endurance. We will gradually increase intensity by working more quickly and fluidly, and slow down when a new exercise is introduced.

Advanced Level
This is a more challenging workout and we will cover all the basic principles of core strength, stability and fluidity as more advanced exercises are introduced. As always, we slow down and modify the exercise if they feel too tough or challenging.

Fitness Ring
Using the Ring, you will isolate, activate and strengthen the important back and abdominal muscles which help to maintain stability. Leg and arm muscles are also utilised to increase strength, tone and flexibility - Particularly beneficial for sports.

Stability Ball
Using the Stability Ball, this will apply some of the essential level exercises to the ball. Mastering the exercises in this program will help to focus on strengthening and stretching the deep muscles around the torso, also known as the “Core”. This will help you perform every day activities with ease and will prepare the body for more progressively challenging work.

Flex Band
People are always searching for variety in their workout. Flex Bands are a great way to add resistance and increase flexibility. What is truly unique about this method is that it uses the basic matwork exercises and simulates the movements performed on Reformer based movements. As with all Lorna’s classes, emphasis is placed on stabilising the spine whilst increasing strength, tone, mobility, balance and co-ordination.
